Celebrating Women in Pest Control American Pest Leaders Honored at NPMA’s 2025 Impact Awards

While women work in nearly every job function across pest management businesses, most outsiders consider pest management as a male-dominated field.
With over 300 employees, American Pest prioritizes an inclusive and empowering culture where women are celebrated and offered opportunities, resources, and mentorship at every level of its organization. The key drivers of success over the past 100 years include not only the growth of the company’s services and clientele, but also the elevation of women to important leadership roles.
Honoring Recipients of NPMA’s Impact Awards
During the May 2025 Women’s Forum in Austin, Texas, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) recognized 88 outstanding women for their significant impact and contributions to the pest management industry. We are thrilled that three American Pest employees received these Impact Awards for their contributions across various roles, including management, technical, service, sales, and administration.

“It’s an honor to receive this award this year,” said Darlynn Smit, Data Conversion Specialist at American Pest. “Working at American Pest, I’ve been offered excellent opportunities for growth! I also appreciate that this workplace has supported me as a mother to young children and allowed me to be a multi-faceted woman with both a successful career and a nurtured family.”
Another recipient, Lynette Nolan, Customer Care Representative at American Pest, shared her sentiment regarding the award. “To receive this prestigious honor and award from NPMA is truly a highlight of my career, as well as a blessing and privilege for my combined 30 years in the pest management profession,” she said. “I would like to thank my colleagues here at American Pest, my current company of three years, for their support and recognition of my contributions.”
The Women’s Forum, held from May 12 through May 14, was filled with informative sessions on hiring and retaining women, networking opportunities, and a keynote presentation on attention management by productivity expert Maura Thomas.
“One thing Maura said that really stuck with me was the idea of using a tool—not just paper—to get everything out of my head. I honestly carry way too much mentally, and it makes sense to put it all somewhere that’s easy to manage. It’s about giving my brain a break from trying to remember every little thing,” said recipient Jolynn Pabon, Care Center Manager at American Pest, who oversees the Senior Accounts Specialist Team and the Retention Team. “It’s about choosing what I give my focus to—and making sure I’m in control of that, not just reacting to everything around me. That really shifted how I think about productivity.”
The event also featured an opportunity for recipients and attendees to fill hygiene bags through a charity give-back initiative benefiting Dress for Success – Austin. The non-profit organization is dedicated to helping unemployed women achieve economic independence by providing them with the professional attire and development resources they need to secure employment.
“It felt good to contribute, even in a small way, to something that empowers women and helps them move forward in their careers,” Jolynn shared.

Recognizing the significant contributions of women in the pest control landscape is crucial for creating a more diverse workforce that can better serve the evolving needs of the sector. By highlighting the achievements and professional journeys of women in this field, as well as implementing initiatives to foster inclusivity, organizations like NPMA and American Pest continue to encourage greater female involvement and leadership in the industry.
